The College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences (COMAHS), University of Sierra Leone, is Sierra Leone’s only medical and pharmacy school and the main institution for basic and specialist nurse training.
The College is critical for building a competent health workforce but faces many challenges in terms of human and physical resources. King’s Sierra Leone Partnership (KSLP) is working with all faculties to provide support across medicine, nursing, pharmacy and dentistry. We have also built strong links with student associations and seek to provide professional encouragement to students through offering electives in London and providing online tutorials with Medicine Africa.
Having received a grant from the UK Department for International Development (DFID), KSLP is providing support for developing curricula and working with faculty staff to implement skills based training and assessment. Support is also being provided to faculty staff wishing to develop their teaching skills. In addition, we are contributing to the upgrade of teaching and learning facilities and working with local colleagues to develop a new oral therapist programme.
